Provenate vs Vapour

Provenate vs Vapour: two Scottish distillery systems compared

Both are Scottish, both run in the cloud, and both were built for distillers. The differences are in duty, finance, integrations and what happens after the bottle leaves.

The honest version

Close on production, different beyond it

Vapour, made by Speyside Labs, describes itself as spirit production for the digital distiller. Its production module covers raw material intake to distillation, its maturation module handles filling, regauges, samples, re-racking and stow scanning, and bottling is an add-on. It is built for distillers, bonded warehouse operators and bottlers of all sizes.

Provenate covers the same floor-to-cask ground and goes further into the back office: W1, W5 and Alcohol Duty figures, cost per litre of pure alcohol and stock valuation, native accounting connectors, and a serialized QR on each bottle that feeds a live scanning dashboard.

Provenate is a distillery ERP for whisky distilleries, independent bottlers and bonded warehouses — production, cask stock, HMRC duty returns (W1, W5, Alcohol Duty) and finance in one platform — built in East Lothian, Scotland by Third Platform Technologies and used by Ardnamurchan, Isle of Harris and Adelphi.

FAQ

Provenate vs Vapour: common questions

Are Provenate and Vapour both Scottish?

Yes. Provenate is built in East Lothian by Third Platform Technologies; Vapour is made by Speyside Labs. Both are cloud systems built for distilleries, bonded warehouses and bottlers.

Which handles HMRC duty returns?

Provenate builds W1 and W5 figures and the figures for your monthly Alcohol Duty return from recorded movements. Vapour's production module says it aligns with HMRC W21 and W1 formats; its public pages don't mention W5 or Alcohol Duty. Read our W1 and W5 guide for what each return needs.

What does Provenate cost compared to Vapour?

Provenate pricing is quote-based and depends on the size of your operation. Vapour sells subscription tiers but doesn't publish prices, so ask both for a quote on the same scope.

Does Provenate connect to Xero or QuickBooks?

Yes. Provenate has native Xero and QuickBooks connectors, so orders become invoices without re-keying.
